Telangana Rain Alert: IMD Issues Red & Orange Warnings for Heavy Rainfall in Hyderabad, Warangal, Mulugu

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red and orange rain alerts for several districts in Telangana, including Hyderabad, Warangal, and Mulugu, due to the forecast of extremely heavy rainfall over the next 24 to 48 hours.

According to the latest bulletin, the IMD has placed Mulugu and Jayashankar Bhupalpally districts under a red alert, indicating a very high likelihood of heavy to extremely heavy rain. Several other districts—Hyderabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Karimnagar, and Khammam—are under orange alerts, cautioning the public and authorities to prepare for heavy downpours and localized flooding.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has been placed on high alert as Hyderabad continues to experience intermittent heavy rains. The city witnessed traffic disruptions, waterlogging in low-lying areas, and delays in public transport services. Officials have advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel, especially during night hours.

In response to the forecast, educational institutions in multiple districts, including Hyderabad, have declared a holiday on July 23 as a safety measure. Emergency teams from municipal bodies and disaster response units are actively monitoring water levels and drainage systems to prevent overflow and flooding.

The IMD has also warned of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds up to 40–50 km/h in isolated parts of the state, which could further aggravate the situation.
